“Last Embrace Before Departure” by D*Face in Malmo, Sweden

In a suburb of Malmo, Holma, it’s possible to see this huge mural created by British street artist Dean Stockton known as D*Face. This working-class district is quite far from the city centre and its buildings are the perfect “canvas” to give a different identity to this area. D*Face has a very personal comic-punk style influenced by the Pop Art world and including a strong critique to the consumerism and the American Dream. His reinterpretation of Pop Art concerns comic book characters inspired by Roy Lichtenstein’s work but reread it on a sinister side. In this case at the first view of the artwork you enjoy the romantic embrace of the couple which is kissing. The D*face signature logo that swirls around them highlights even more the union. In a second observation you realize that the man’s face is starting the decay process making this hug the last one before the end. In this vision D*Face wants to encourage us to look in a different way at the things passing over the blind addiction produced by the aesthetic consumerism.
