“Yatiri” by Charquipunk in Cochabamba, Bolivia

Last year for the Bau (Bienal de Arte Urbano) in Cochabamba, Bolivia, Chilean street artist Charquipunk creates this mural connected to the folkloric traditions of South America. In Bolivia he is interested in the pre-Columbian culture and he reports about the indigenous traces in the features of his characters and the elements of his painting. Charquipunk takes inspiration from the flora and fauna of Andean landscapes. He is fascinated by the birds, as there are 18 endemic species of birds in Chile which he mixes with his own fantasy and creativity. In this mural he inserts his characteristic hummingbird (picador de Juan Fernandez) which are typical from South Chile. Charquipunk supports the idea that representing them in his art it’s possible to show about native culture to the rest of the world.
